Description
A perfect double-duty necklace in antique Bowenite serpentine beads from Burma or Thailand, modern frosted and carved rock crystal quartz beads and luxuriant lashings of 22k and 24k gold plated silver (vermeil).
Like many of my necklaces, this piece just grew until it had achieved the right balance.
It started with the antique serpentine snail shell beads to which I added complementary snail shell beads in 24k gold plated .975 silver. These are handmade by Karen Hilltribes-people who live in northern Thailand, having migrated from southeastern Burma (Myanmar). The shells are a propitious symbol signalling prosperity. They are fresh water snails which, when found in abundance, signal good rainfall or available water thus enabling people to grow rice.
They are given a special lift with the addition of two different textures of rock crystal quartz: the smooth matte, which complements the matte serpentine, and the glowing carved melons, which complement the carved texture of the shells as well as reflecting the rich gold caps and spacers in 22k gold plated .925 silver.
Wear as a single long strand or double for a shorter collar.
Length: 39.75 inches/101cm.
All my necklaces come packed in their very own Thai silk padded gift box for safe-keeping.
