Description
An elegant necklace featuring a pendant made from hand-carved Queen Conch shell, facetted blue tanzanite and 24k vermeil (heavily gold-plated sterling silver) suspended from a long, adjustable silk cord. The cord is a generous 110cm in length so that you can tie it any way you choose. It is finished with 24k vermeil caps and accented with my signature Ottoman tulip charm, also in 24k vermeil.

The Queen Conch (Aliger gigas, formerly Strombus gigas) is a large shellfish from the Caribbean which has long been prized for its edible meat and glossy pink inner shell. It plays a vital part of the culture and economy of the Caribbean region; however, overfishing, habitat degradation and hurricane damage have led to declining conch populations in the wild. As a consequence, in recent years projects have been set up to involve fishing communities throughout the region in restorative aquaculture, whereby those who depend on the shellfish for their livelihoods are now farming it with a view to restoring wild populations and improving the health of aquatic environments at the same time as providing food for a growing population. It is in this way that we are still able to enjoy jewellery made from this beautiful jewel of the deep.

The cord is handmade Yotsu-gumi kumihimo pure silk braid from Japan.

PACKING & SHIPPING
The necklace will come packed in it’s own storage box, as shown, for safe-keeping, and gift-wrapped for instant gift-giving. Because the gemstones and other components used in my jewellery can be fragile and easily damaged if mistreated, all pieces are carefully packed for domestic and international shipping using recycled packing materials and boxes made by us from recycled materials.
I ship almost all of my packages with Australia Post using Parcel Post within Australia and Standard International shipping for international orders. Both come with tracking and SMS notifications, while Express Post and extra cover insurance can be added if requested. I combine shipping and will refund any excess shipping costs.
